Isla del Sol and Isla de la Luna

One of the most popular trips on Lake Titicaca is to these two mountainous islands a short boat ride from Copacabana. Although most visitors come on a day-trip, others stick around to take advantage of the small, family-run hostels on Isla del Sol and to soak in the timeless atmosphere of the alleged birthplace of the Incas. Considered sacred islands, in local mythology, this is where the god Viracocha emerged from the lake and created the sun and the moon. There are no cars on either island, only steep trails between the ports and villages.
