When to Go

June through September the weather is typical of any ski region—blowing snowstorms, rain, and fog punctuated by days of brilliant sunshine. August and September are the best months for skiing, as the slopes are crowded with vacationers in July.

In December the weather can be cool, breezy, overcast, or rainy, but the rewards for bringing an extra sweater and raingear are great: an abundance of wildflowers and few tourists. January and February are the peak summer months, with days that are warm and long (the sun sets at 10 pm). March and April are good months to visit; the leaves of lenga and ñire trees brighten the rolling green forests with splashes of yellow and red, but rainy, cloudy days and cold nights can curtail some excursions.
