Hotels

Idyllic lake-view lodges, cozy cabañas (cabins), vast estancias (ranches), and inexpensive hospedajes or residenciales (bed-and-breakfasts) are found in towns and in the countryside throughout northern Patagonia. Superluxurious hotels in Bariloche and Villa La Angostura attract outdoor enthusiasts from all over the world, as do small family-run hostels where backpackers squeeze five to a room. Fishing lodges in the San Martín de los Andes area and the Cholila Valley are not only for anglers; they make great headquarters for hiking, boating, or just getting away. Most of them include all meals. Guides are extra. "Apart-hotels" have small, furnished apartments with kitchenettes. Local tourist offices are helpful in finding anything from a room in a residence to a country inn or a downtown hotel. Advance reservations are highly recommended if you're traveling during peak times (December–March; July for the ski resorts).
