Destination Hotels in the Lake District

Far from all the usual tourist sights, shops, and restaurants, usually on a dirt road and often with no real address, the Lake District's destination hotels are almost as soothing and inspiring as the very wilderness they're hidden in. Similar to the all-inclusive resort concept but without the resort-y feel, these hotels are focused on getting you as close to nature as possible. They often require a minimum stay of two or more nights—but this makes sense for guests, because getting to these places can be a production. Once you've arrived, the staff will facilitate a relaxing nature-oriented stay where stargazing is the main evening event and hiking trails into the mountains are at your doorstep. Come with a group, as a couple, or with anyone you're eager to share some downtime with.

If you're based in Bariloche, consider Hotel Tronadór, Peuma Hue, or the Llao Llao Hotel & Resort. The one with arguably the best location, though, is Isla Victoria Lodge in Nahuel Huapi National Park, right on Isla Victoria.
