Fodor's Expert Review Don Cleofe
San Antonio de Areco, Buenos Aires, 2760, Argentina
Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.
Rolling farmland spreads out before this family-run establishment, which is a bit out of town but feels a million miles from everywhere. Colorful cushions and bed throws from the north of Argentina warm up the small, ultrasimple rooms, which each has one wall painted a rich color like butter-yellow or crimson (but jarring with the Formica wardrobes). The owners are happy to customize your already generous breakfast, served in a sunny dining room that turns into one of San Antonio's best restaurants on weekends.
PROS
- fabulous home cooking
- fresh air and serious peace and quiet within walking distance of the main drag
- friendly but nonintrusive owners
CONS
- small rooms
- only the best room has views of the fields
- cold in winter
