Fodor's Expert Review Sofitel Buenos Aires
Arroyo 841, Buenos Aires, Buenos Aires, 1007, Argentina
Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.
Built in 1929 by a Yugoslavian shipping magnate, this was the city's tallest building for many years; it might have lost its lofty title, but it's still considered one of the classiest hotels in Buenos Aires, known for its understated elegance. Upper-level rooms are large and bright, offering amazing panoramic views of the city skyline and the Río de la Plata. All the beds have a triple layer of soft-to-the-touch linens, as well as down comforters. French curtains, dark-wood furnishings, and fresh flowers add to the allure, as do modern amenities like in-room espresso machines and stereo systems. There's also an indoor pool and a fitness center. One of the city's nicest cafés, Café Arroyo, and the well-regarded restaurant Le Sud are on-site.
PROS
- on a swanky street lined with art galleries
- long list of amenities
CONS
- the lobby can get crowded and noisy
