Fodor's Expert Review Ann Starrett Mansion

744 Clay St., Port Townsend, Washington, 98368, USA Fodor's Choice

Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.

Gables, turrets, and gingerbread trim decorate this glorious 1889 mansion, built by a wealthy contractor for his young bride and now a boutique hotel decorated with florals and antiques. The centerpiece is a three-tiered hanging spiral staircase in a 70-foot-high cupola tower, with fine murals and ruby stained-glass windows that catch the first light. Two separate cottages have more modern furnishings and are more suitable for families. While the inn doesn't serve breakfast, there are good options nearby (guests are welcome to pick up pastries and use the dining room).
