Fodor's Expert Review The Company Store

$ Bath County American

Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.

The 19th-century mining company commissary in Low Moor is now a local gathering spot, with the ambience of an earlier era supplied by its jukebox and a broad selection of merchandise from country ham, vintage postcards, and penny candy to household products, local art, and Virginia wines. Chef Michel Neutelings, whose background includes more than two decades of experience at resorts including The Homestead, has turned this spot into a dining destination worth the drive, featuring a seasonal menu sourced locally. In fall you might get grilled pork chops in an apple-cider reduction or butternut squash with chestnuts, while in other seasons updated classics like rack of lamb or fire-grilled prime sirloin with a red-wine-and-shallot sauce. There's also a lounge with live music for weekend entertainment.
