Fodor's Expert Review Carlton Hotel

140 E. South Temple, Salt Lake City, Utah, 84111, USA

An absolute steal on the quieter eastern side of Downtown and Temple Square, this atmospheric 1920s hotel with a gorgeous brick exterior has remained resolutely old-fashioned, offering few frills but plenty of value, especially in the spacious suites. Watch your step in all main-floor rooms, where the bathrooms are literally a step up from the rest of room.

You'll find refrigerators, microwaves, and coffeemakers in every room, and rates include hot cooked breakfast. There's no on-site parking, but a nearby garage charges about $20 nightly.
