Deer Creek State Park. Consistently good fishing, mild canyon winds, and water warmer than you'd expect are responsible for Deer Creek State Park's popularity with windsurfers, sailors, swimmers, and those just kicking back in the mountain sunshine. The park is 5 miles south of Heber City. U.S. 189, Heber, Utah, 84049. 435/654–0174; stateparks.utah.gov. $10 day-use fee. Daily 6 am–10 pm; hrs vary in winter.

Jordanelle State Park. This park has three recreation areas on a large mountain reservoir. The Hailstone area, 10 miles north of Heber City via U.S. 40, offers day-use areas, boat ramps, playgrounds, and a marina store where water toys (wave runners and the like) can be rented. To the east, across the reservoir on Highway 32, the Rock Cliff area and facilities are near the Provo River. To the north, Ross Creek is where some of the best fishing in the area can be found. Hwy. 32, Heber, Utah, 84032. 435/649--9540; stateparks.utah.gov. Hailstone $10 per vehicle, Rock Cliff and Ross Creek $7 per vehicle.
