The interstate cuts north from Salt Lake City through the region, joining U.S. 89, which winds up through Logan to Bear Lake, and also Interstate 84, which curves in a northwesterly direction to Idaho. U.S. 89 is also known as Logan Canyon Scenic Byway north of the city of Logan and is, as you might guess, stunning to drive. Off the main highways, roads range from well-paved multilane blacktop routes to barely graveled backcountry trails that may require high-clearance vehicles—if heading to trailheads or lakes in the national forest, it's a good idea to check websites or with local ranger offices for driving conditions, especially in winter or after rainy periods.
