Why We Like It

What we love most about this centrally located hotel is the atrium and the pool. Thought the Omni has to compete with nearby hotels that amp up the luxury, this enduring spot is no slouch. Everything you need for a comfortable and memorable stay is provided here.

Fodor's Expert Review

Your introduction to this bustling, business-oriented hotel is a soaring, granite-and-glass atrium lobby. From atrium-view rooms you can spy on diners and scurrying businesspeople below. Exterior rooms have balconies and city vistas (on upper floors). The décor, simple but modern, neither inspires nor offends. The rooftop pool offers beautiful downtown views, but fills up fast on weekends. The central downtown location can mean loud Sixth Street overflow for lower level rooms. At breakfast, the eggs are cage-free, the bagels are shipped from New York. Service is professional, if on the cool side.

The vast hotel features 392 rooms with a natural palette reminiscent of forests and water. Standard rooms offer plush queen, king or two double beds, while two-bedroom suites and even an 1100-square foot penthouse are also available. Touches like crown molding, large windows and contemporary furniture add to the classiness.

Lobby

A 19-story atrium is the first thing to catch your eye. It lets in plenty of sunshine in the daytime and makes the downtown lights feel part of the interior space. Live plants fill the space and the hustle and bustle of foot traffic makes you feel like you’re in the epicenter of activity.

Pool

As impressive as the atrium itself is, the real stand-out luxury feature at the Omni downtown is the heated rooftop pool with its amazing views of downtown and the surrounding city. There’s a poolside bar and even some poolside dining options available.

Tip The pool is open year-round so make sure to bring your bathing suit!

Gym

There is a 2000-square foot fitness center with a bevy of equipment, but you must be 18 or older to use it.

Dining

Morsel's is a quick dining experience offering breakfast, lunch and snacks as well as coffee, and Ancho's is a slightly more upscale restaurant offering southwest fare and weekday buffets. Both spaces are filled with natural light from the large atrium windows.

Drinking

The Atrium Lounge is located in the lobby and offers plenty of seating to grab a drink with friends or people watch. They’re are open until 12 a.m. on weekdays and 1 a.m. on the weekends.

What's Nearby

Getting Around

You’re right in the heart of downtown, so getting around on foot is a cinch. If you’re head to South Congress or to the University of Texas at Austin, an Uber is best, and for anywhere else a rental car work.

Restaurants

Austin staple Stubb’s BBQ (8-minute walk) is a must. Though some locals think their BBQ doesn’t sing like it used to, the location, history and famous music venue makes it an unforgettable experience. For those wanting something classy, New American eatery Parkside (4-minute walk) serves up a fine dinner typically featuring fresh seafood and small farm meats. They’re also known for their generous food and cocktail happy hour. Sister restaurant The Backspace (4-minute walk) located next door features a small, sparse setting and simple menu of light Italian salads and brick over pizza.

Bars

Because the hotel is located just one block north of Austin’s famous Sixth Street, there are a slew of bars to choose from. Stand out spots include Iron Cactus Mexican Restaurant and Margarita Bar (4-minute walk) with an impressive patio desk and extensive tequila menu. Try their Smoked Sage Margarita or El Jardin Margarita made with strawberry, basil and jalapeno. Easy Tiger (10-minute walk) doubles as a bakery and beer garden, featuring German food, varied list of beers and charming outdoor seating next to Waller Creek.
