Why We Like It

East Austin is hanging fast, but this carefully designed boutique made sure not to stand out like a sore thumb. The proprietors took an already existing house and made it even more inviting. Heywood encourages its guests to enjoy the neighborhood and we love them for that.

Fodor's Expert Review

This boutique hotel debuted amidst the rapidly gentrifying strip of East Cesar Chavez in 2012 and the hip hood has continued to flourish around the restored 1920s bungalow, elevating its desirable indie locale. The exterior, with a front porch and hanging basket chairs, is quaintly retro, and interiors are sleek and sophisticated with mid-century modern style and historic accents, like original long-leaf pine floors. Rooms, each slightly different, are split between the original bungalow and the second floor of an adjacent building, accessed by a communal courtyard. Popular shops and restaurants and the hive of East Sixth bars are within walking distance. You can also explore with the complimentary bicycles. Downtown is a short pedicab ride away. Full-property group rentals are available.

Tip East Austin has a rich and storied past. It’s worth visiting the African-American Cultural & Heritage Facility (6-minute drive) to learn more about this beautiful neighborhood.
