Fodor's Expert Review James Gettys Hotel

27 Chambersburg St., Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, 17325, USA

Located in the center of town, this four-story building, built in 1804, was originally operated as a tavern and roadhouse. Today it's a homey suites-only hotel, but it was once used as a hospital for Union soldiers, among other things. All suites have a kitchenette that includes a refrigerator, microwave oven, and small dining table.

PROS

  • convenient to downtown restaurants and shops
  • in-room breakfast basket
  • kitchenettes

CONS

  • some street noise
  • desk clerk not on duty 24/7
  • farther away from battlefield than some hotels
