Bryn Athyn

Bryn Athyn was founded in the late 1800s as a community for New Church members, who follow the religious writings of Emanuel Swedenborg (1688–1772). About a 20-mile drive north of the city, the community is still very much intact with a boys' school, a girls' school, and a college. The two reasons to visit are the spectacular cathedral and the house-turned-antiquities-museum Glencairn. The Pitcairns, the family who footed the bill for almost everything, had another house, Cairnwood, which can be toured. The sights constitute a National Historic Landmark, and even though they are on the same large, grassy hill, they are run separately. While technically located in neighboring Montgomery County, not Bucks County, Bryn Athyn is a short drive from the other sights nearby.
