Why We Like It

The Briar Rose Inn isn’t for everyone, but if you’re into the bed-and-breakfast experience, this is a solid option in the Portland area. The shabby chic interior, awesome breakfast, and great location that’s convenient to the city without being in the thick of downtown make this a great choice for Portland visitors looking for a quieter, more relaxed visit.

Fodor's Expert Review

If you’re looking for a kitschy, romantic escape from the city, The Briar Rose Inn has just what you're looking for. Built in 1908, this bed-and-breakfast, which is just north of Portland proper in Vancouver, WA, has a cozy charm that will appeal to travelers looking for a quiet, comfortable, “just like home” experience.

Room

There are four rooms at The Briar Rose Inn, each with their own unique charm: the Hearth Room (king-size bed), the French Toile Room (queen-size bed), the Provence Room (two twin beds), and the Hemingway Room (full-size bed). The first three rooms are decorated in a feminine, shabby-chic style while the Hemingway Room has some more masculine touches and darker colors (no pink in this room!).

Bathroom

The bathrooms at The Briar Rose Inn are exactly what you’d expect to find after taking in the decor of the rest of the place; wallpaper that reminds you of your grandmother’s house (but in a good way!), claw tubs, and Victorian-inspired details.

You Should Know There are four rooms at The Briar Rose Inn… but only three bathrooms. If you book either the Hearth Room or the Provence Room, be prepared to share with your neighbor.

Lobby

The Briar Rose Inn is housed in a 1908 craftsman, so there’s no lobby - but there is a cozy sitting room that’s perfect for snuggling up with a hot drink and a good book.

Tip If you want to spend some time relaxing in the sitting room, make sure to ask your hosts to whip you up a hot chocolate - it’ll add to the cozy vibe.

Dining

Considering the fact that the Briar Rose Inn is a bed-and-breakfast, it only makes sense that they serve up the first meal of the day! A hearty breakfast (served in the dining room, which maintains all of its original features) is included with your stay.

Drinking

There’s no alcohol served at The Briar Rose Inn… but if you sneak in a bottle of wine, we won’t tell.
