Wine Lover’s Guide to Portland

Portland

For those looking for a wine experience in or around Portland, here are a few of the best places to explore Oregon’s internationally celebrated wine culture. Straddled between two of Oregon’s major wine-producing areas (namely the Willamette Valley and the Columbia River Gorge), Oregon’s major city is an excellent spot to begin your exploration of the state’s wine offerings.

WHERE TO EAT & DRINK

There are numerous wineries around the city. The best known of these, Hip Chicks Do Wine, has been offering wine tastings and special events since 2001. Other wine-lovers’ hotspots include the SE Wine Collective, which offers custom crush services for area wineries along with tastings, food pairings, and special events. Just up the road, Division Winemaking Company offers primarily pinots noirs and chardonnays, with most of their varietals originating in the Willamette Valley; just call in advance to make an appointment. From here, it’s a five-minute drive to one of the city’s newest urban wineries, the Teutonic Wine Company, which produces Alsatian and German-style wines from Oregon-grown grapes.
