Nestled in the shadow of Hunter Mountain, the second-highest mountain in the Catskills, the village of Hunter is all about the slopes. On winter weekends thousands of skiers flock to the area, the oldest of the Catskill ski resorts. Although there's plenty of nightlife, Hunter is more a family-oriented destination. In other seasons, fairs and festivals (including a well-known Oktoberfest) are held here. The village's arts scene, mostly the work of the not-for-profit Catskill Mountain Foundation, is thriving.
