Why We Like It

A barista coffee on the rooftop terrace here is a lovely way to start a day. We love the thoughtful extras, from turn-down chocolates to evening canapés. While the daily residents fee can be a bit pesky, having drinks, breakfast, and snacks all included makes it a worthwhile charge. This hotel is genuinely a peaceful retreat, especially compared to some crowded New York hotels that serve as extended living rooms for New Yorkers.

Fodor's Expert Review

This Art Deco-style hotel is designed to feel like a glamorous private residence. Breakfast, afternoon tea, and evening canapés—all included in the rate—are served on the scenic 23rd-floor terrace. The nightly “resident fee” also includes premium alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages, barista coffees, in-room snacks, and Wi-Fi. This property nails the thoughtful extras that enhance a stay (you know, for a "resident fee").

You Should Know Some guests may have mixed feelings about said mandatory daily resident fee. So, you might as well eat and drink as much as you can while staying here.

What's Nearby

Getting Around

Located a few blocks south of Central Park, this hotel is in a good position for exploring Midtown on foot, including the theater district. Fifth Avenue shopping is also within an easy stroll. Subway service is nearby with the E, B, and D trains at 53rd Street/7th Avenue and the N, Q, R, and W trains at 57th Street/7th Avenue. Taxis and Uber are widely available in this neighborhood, but traffic congestion can be a problem.

Restaurants

Climb a flight of stairs to Yakitori Totto (2-minute walk) and feel transported straight to Tokyo. Aim for a seat at the counter facing the grills to watch chefs at work preparing meat, vegetables, and seafood on skewers. Experience a piece of New York City dining history at the classic Brooklyn Diner (3-minute walk), where pastrami sandwiches, chicken pot pie, and bowls of chili satisfy the crowds. Beyond the bustling bar, Kingside (5-minute walk) has an attractive dining room; try the linguini with clams or the grilled skirt steak with chimichurri.

Bars

A cocktail bar with a Prohibition theme, Tanner Smith’s (1-minute walk) also has a nice selection of beer and wine. Overlooking the sculpture garden at MoMA, the Modern (7-minute walk) is known for Michelin-rated food, but the bar here is equally attractive and serves signature cocktails along a pretty marble bar.
