Why We Like It

The Pod is perfect for the traveler who gets frustrated by paying for amenities and extra they don’t need, i.e. those who drop bags and go party once they hit the ground. Thoughtfully designed and accurately priced, the Pod Brooklyn is going to lure even more young Europeans to an already tourist-heavy drag.

Fodor's Expert Review

The Pod Hotels are quickly taking over New York. With the first outpost on 39th street (with an amazing roof bar), soon came 51st street. Now Pod Brooklyn, smack in the center of Williamsburg, and Times Square have, too, opened and rumors of one downtown are swirling. If you hear “pod” and think capsule, luckily think again. This Brooklyn location, right on Metropolitan and Driggs, might appear from the outside to be a storage facility, but these micro-rooms clock in at 110 sq. feet and do their best at providing a human touch to this sleep factory. Pod Brooklyn, compromised of modular units shipping from Poland, has four room blocks with lots of outdoor space in between and a huge rooftop bar that when it finally opens in spring will certainly become a popular spot in the neighborhood.

Room

Rooms comes in bunks or queens, all designed to maximize movement and storage. No frills and whistles here, just a solid comfortable bed with in-wall charges and headlights, free wifi and a flatscreen TV. This is a “smart” budget hotel that rid of the amenities that add up—while being enough space to primp for a night out.

Bathroom

Separated by a frosted glass panel, the bathroom is a small stand shower that shares space with the toilet. The sink vanity stands just outside, so one guest can do makeup while the other washes up. The Pod also provides hair dryers and basic bath products.

Lobby

The Lobby is the sole entrance to this full-block enclave, making for a secure property. Above the lobby are common tables where throngs of laptopers work away.

Gym

No gym yet, though passes to partner gym are available. Come springtime, the Pod hopes to roll out an outdoor yoga and pilates program on the roof garden.

Dining

The food & beverage partner has yet to be announced, but a large-scale full-service restaurant and bar is slated to open by the spring/summer of 2018 that’s aiming to service both guest dining and room service but also destination diners.

Drinking

The same establishment that will run the restaurant will extend service to the aforementioned destination rooftop bar.

What's Nearby

Getting Around

That famous Williamsburg and its exported “gritty cool”? This is the heart of it. Steps away from the Bedford Avenue L stop (the only subway in the vicinity), this is the thick of the boulevard that put this Brooklyn brand on the map. The L train at Bedford Avenue is a 5-minute walk from the hotel. In 2019, the L train is slated to close for repairs leaving this part of Williamsburg in a pickle of how to handle traffic flow.

Restaurants

Bedford Avenue from the Williamsburg Bridge to Greenpoint is the heart of the Williamsburg food empire. Stylish 1920s-feeling Maison Premiere (5-minutes) is famed for its oysters and wine program. Egg (5-minutes) has become a staple for American fare in the neighborhood while Fette Sau (3-minutes) is a BBQ game changer. Stroll along Bedford, Driggs and Berry until you stumble upon something of your fancy.

Bars

Across the street, Extra Fancy (1-minute) offers classic cocktails and outdoor seating in nicer months. The Commodore (2-minutes) serves potent mixed drinks and the best fried chicken sandwich ever to a crowd of old punks and new hipsters. There are almost too many bars around here to choose from.
