Fodor's Expert Review Hotel Le Jolie
235 Meeker Ave., between Lorimer St. and Union Ave., Brooklyn, New York 11211, USA See on Map
This no-frills favorite has excellent service and is conveniently located for exploring Williamsburg’s arts, culture, and dining scenes. The subway and the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway are also easy to access (the latter is handy should you want to get into Manhattan by car). There’s a small parking lot and spaces are free on a first-come, first-serve basis—a true rarity in New York.
YOU SHOULD KNOW Close proximity to the highway can equal noise.
room
Economical in both size and features, rooms are perfectly comfortable with down comforters, mini-fridges, and a small work desk. A design refresh brought color to the rooms, including pretty pops of blue.
“Elite” rooms at the back of the hotel and above the fourth floor have views of the Manhattan skyline.
lobby
Sometimes it's the simple things that make you happy and the simple lobby has a sunny breakfast area that serves cereal, pastries, yogurt, and juice. Also, there's coffee and fresh fruit all day.
LOCATION
Getting Around
Located on Meeker Avenue beneath the rumble of the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway, this affordable hotel is in a good spot for exploring the art and culture scene of Williamsburg. The subway is nearby with the L train Lorimer Street station (with quick access to Manhattan). Guests with a car will be into the free parking. Taxis and Uber are available in the neighborhood.
Restaurants
Pasta guru Missy Robbins is behind Lilia (3-minute walk), a restaurant in a former auto-body shop; try the ricotta gnocchi with broccoli pesto. Barbecue fanatics travel from across the city to feast at Fette Sau (7-minute walk), a dry-rub BBQ joint with communal tables and craft beers. Comfort food classics like mac and cheese and roasted chicken keep everybody coming back to The Brooklyn Star (5-minute walk).
WHY WE LIKE IT
Affordability in New York often equals distance from where you want to be, but the neighborhood around this no-frills hotel has grown considerably, with excellent dining, drinking, and art options nearby. We like the free continental breakfast, the convenience of a mini-fridge in the room, and an emphasis on service.
