Fodor's Expert Review Hotel Beacon
2130 Broadway, at 75th St., New York, New York 10023, USA See on Map
A neighborhood favorite for a reason, this Upper West Side hotel is three blocks from Central Park, 10 blocks from Lincoln Center and steps from great gourmet grocery stores (Zabar’s, Fairway, and Citarella). It’s also the neighborhood’s best buy for the price: all of the generously sized rooms and suites have kitchenettes. Score. The staff is also especially friendly and helpful.
room
Spacious rooms and suites all have the extra convenience of a kitchenette, stocked with coffeemakers, toasters, and pots and pans. Between these lovely kitchenettes and the huge closets, this hotel is a popular pick for extended-stay guests. High floors have views of Central Park, the Hudson River, or the midtown skyline.
YOU SHOULD KNOW Rooms are spacious and comfortable but traditional in style—if you’re looking for groundbreaking design, stay elsewhere.
bathroom
Marble bathrooms have Gilchrist & Soames bath products and shower/tub combos.
lobby
The cozy, street-facing lobby is on the ground level and has several couches and chairs for lounging.
LOCATION
Getting Around
Located on Broadway between West 74th and West 75th Streets, this hotel is in a prime location for exploring the Upper West Side. The leafy paths of Central Park are also within easy walking distance. Subway service is nearby with the 1, 2, and 3 trains at 72nd and Broadway. Taxis and Uber are widely available in the neighborhood.
Restaurants
A salumi shop in front and Italian restaurant in the back, Salumeria Rosi Parmacotto (2-minute walk) is a nice little cozy spot for pasta or Tuscan-inspired small plates. For a light breakfast or lunch (or loaf of bread to bring back to your kitchenette), check out Orwasher’s Bakery (7-minute walk); we recommend the ham and cheese croissants. Spicy food fans will want to visit the Sichuan restaurant Han Dynasty (11-minute walk)—try the dan dan noodles.
WHY WE LIKE IT
The neighborhood location offers a glimpse into the everyday life of New Yorkers. We love the spacious rooms and kitchenettes, allowing guests to explore the Upper West Side’s excellent grocery stories and bakeries. A small fitness room and casual bar round out the solid amenities.
