I feel like you’re not even going to believe me that this is a real place.
The Beekman is one of the hottest hotels in New York City right now, and for good reason. The hotel has restaurants from not one, but two local celebrity chefs and the dark, cozy, old-world decor (designed by Martin Brudnizki) feels like stepping back in time to the real New York. The hotel feels like a place where old-timey fancy people would have gone to have a discreet meetings with unsavory characters.
The lobby is terrific, with wall-to-wall vintage rugs, leather furniture, and best of all, an atrium that ascends nine stories to the glass-roofed ceiling. (If you visited this hotel and didn’t take a photo of the atrium, did you even stay here?)
While the hotel is worth a visit on its own, there’s now a very special reason to spend the night: two brand-new penthouse suites, housed in the two turrets atop the hotel roof. There are some serious fairytale vibes here.
The penthouses are both enormous (and not just by New York standards), with 40-foot pitched ceilings and dark wood paneling. There’s a full living room, a wet bar, a bathroom, a powder room, and a giant private terrace. The bed is up a set of stairs in a loft overlooking the living room with a fluffy white bed, exotic bedside lamps, and a giant freestanding bathtub so you don’t have to miss out on any fun while you’re taking a bath.

The whole atmosphere of the penthouse suite is warm and cozy but sparsely decorated with quality antiques. Built in 1881, this historic setting has hints of Rapunzel, the Orient Express, and Gangs of New York, making this one of the city’s most distinct hotel rooms.
And the view! Did I tell you about the view yet? Because it’s pretty incredible. Of all of New York’s most iconic old and new buildings, it feels like most of them can be seen from the penthouse (even though it’s only 9 stories up!): the Frank Gehry Building, the Woolworth Building, One World Trade Center, that crazy Calatrava train station, and some random building across the street that is absolutely magnificent.
