NY Cemetery Invites You to Bury Your Secrets This Weekend

cem

Creative Time, a New York organization that helps to promote art to the public, will be hosting an event involving secrets at  Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn, NY,  this weekend . The artwork, titled “Here Lie the Secrets of the Visitors of Green-Wood Cemetery,” invites the public to join French conceptual artist Sophie Calle in burying their most intimate confessions. During the event – which runs April 29 and April 30 from 12-5 p.m. – guests can transcribe their secrets onto paper and deposit them into the ground via a slot in an obelisk designed by Calle. Admittance will reportedly be on a first-come, first-serve basis. Complimentary walking tours will also be offered beginning at 1 p.m.

Following the showcase, guests can independently deposit their secrets into the marble obelisk during Green Wood’s regular hours. Also, according to Creative Time’s website, “Calle has also pledged to return periodically over the next 25 years, each time the grave is filled, to exhume and cremate them in a ceremonial bonfire service and moment of remembrance.”
