This eclectic gallery, set in an Art Deco former gas station in the center of town, is curated by well-known architect Michael Davis. The shop showcases mid-century and vintage furniture, lighting, textiles, jewelry, and other decorative items you didn't realize you needed until you saw them here.

Chris Lehrecke Hudson

Beautiful and unique things found here include owner Chris Lehrecke's handcrafted furniture and lighting and nature-inspired jewelry by iconic jeweler Ted Muehling and Mueling's former student (and Lehrecke's wife) Gabriella Kiss. You'll also find candlesticks and cabinet hardware from E.R. Butler and mirrored objects by Maureen Fullam. Lehrecke's work, which is inspired by George Nakashima and Charles and Ray Eames, is otherwise available only to the trade. The store is only open on weekends, or by appointment.

Hudson Wine Merchants

This appealing shop with exposed brick walls and a copper-colored tin ceiling focuses on new and exciting grapes from little-known producers. The result is a curated selection of high quality wines from (primarily) small-scale wineries.

Lili and Loo

Lili and Loo stocks an eclectic selection of pottery, furniture, housewares, rugs, and wearables (jewelry, watches, scarves, and women's clothing). Owner Melinda Slover's taste runs the gamut: from rustic to sleek, ancient to modern, minimalist to ornate. Slover offers something for everyone and prides herself on her store's affordable prices. Unlike many Hudson stores, Lili and Loo is open seven days a week.

Ornamentum

A contemporary jewelry store owned by couple Stefan Freidemann and Laura Lapachin (who met in a metalsmithing class), Ornamentum sells fanciful jewelry made by fine artists whose works appear in museums around the world.

Otto's Market

After a succeessful career working for Whole Foods Market, Otto Leuschel decided to open an old-style grocery store in the tiny center of Germantown, 10 miles south of Hudson. Despite its small size, Otto's has an amazing selection of products ranging from grocery staples like Tide and Oreos to more exotic fare like British condiments and European jams. There's an excellent selection of international and local cheeses as well as other great Hudson Valley products. There's also a full deli in the back and two café tables in the front. Leuschel recently opened a variety store across the street that sells everything from cosmetics to hammers.

Rural Residence

Here you will find an impeccable assortment of candles, coffee-table books, Italian and Belgian linens, and other refined trifles. They also offer men's shaving accoutrements and correspondence items including marbleized paper and special occasion cards.

The Spotty Dog Books & Ale

This eclectic indie bookstore housed in an 1889 firehouse has a long wooden bar serving craft ales and lagers on tap. In addition to the large selection of books by local authors, it also sells stationery, gifts, and art supplies for both children and professional artists.

Theron Ware

The archetype of Hudson antiques shops is Theron Ware: a single storefront populated with rare and pricey treasures. It specializes in European and American antiques and artworks from the 17th through the 19th century, but also has tribal and Native American art, antiquities, and contemporary art.

Valley Variety

Three stores in one, Valley Variety sells beautiful and useful things for the kitchen and garden, as well as for entertaining and travel. There's also a rotating art gallery and a display kitchen where owner Chuck Rosenthal plans to host chef demos and dinners.

Verdigris Tea & Chocolate Bar

This corner store does double-duty selling fine loose teas from around the world and exquisite chocolate bars and baked goods. The Chocolate Bar is a café serving a range of hot chocolates including the signature Hudson (a rich ganache of dark chocolate blended with milk, whipped cream, and chocolate shavings) as well as a selection of teas, coffees, and smoothies. Then there's a tea bar in the back where you can sample two of the shop's many excellent teas before buying.
