Once a thriving industrial riverfront town, Saugerties went through a slump but now is a vibrant place with a grand new hotel and lively restaurants (and can also claim itself as the hometown of Jimmy Fallon, host of The Tonight Show). Between May and September, it’s home to the prestigious HITS on the Hudson equestrian competitions and on the last weekend in September, Cantine Field hosts one of the country’s best garlic festivals. It’s also a great place for cycling along the Hudson River and Esopus Creek while enjoying views of the Catskill Mountains.
