Why We Like It

In addition to the breathtakingly gorgeous, riotously colorful decor of this luxurious Relais & Chateaux inn, the solicitous personal service stands out: Treats are left on your pillow, refrigerators are stocked with gourmet treats, and afternoon margarita and wine-and-cheese spreads, an exquisite breakfast, and even daily walking tours are yours for the asking. The gardens and outdoor areas abound with lush, flowering plants, gurgling fountains and cozy nooks to relax into, and the location—a short walk from the Plaza but on a quiet and historic side street—is ideal for local sightseeing.

Fodor's Expert Review

There isn't another property in Santa Fe to compare to this sumptuous yet relaxed inn with an unmistakable East-meets-West feel. The management and staff at this Relais & Chateaux hotel have created a lodging that fits right in with the kind of memorable properties you hear about in Morocco and Bali. The decor differs from the cliché Santa Fe style, yet locals would tell you that this melding of styles is what true Santa Fe style is all about.

You Should Know Although children ages 5 and up are welcome, this intimate, decidedly adult-oriented hideaway is not an ideal option for families.

Room

All of the roomy suites have vibrantly colorful Asian and Latin American antiques and art, kilim rugs, and jewel-tone throw pillows—if muted hues and minimalist decor are your aesthetic, you might wish to look elsewhere. The owners, who have a long history in Santa Fe as importers of antiques and textiles, have a wonderful eye for decorating, however, and each of these individually decorated rooms feels utterly enchanting and romantic. All have wood-burning fireplaces, and several have private porches or balconies.

Bathroom

Great care has been taken in designing the fabulous bathrooms at Five Graces. Outfitted with bright mosaic tiles, semi-precious-stone inlays, plush Frette linens, and exclusive Bamford bath products, these spacious bathrooms have double sinks and separate showers (and in some cases steam showers.

Lobby

Upon entering the Pueblo Revival casita that houses the inn's reception lounge, you'll be treated to complimentary drinks. Relax inside by the fire, or stop by the adjacent business area, which is stocked with Mac and PC computers. There are also several gorgeously landscaped courtyards to enjoy, including one just off the lobby.

Spa

In the spa treatment room you can book luxe treatments—including ayurvedic healing massage and body exfoliations—to salve the skin from the high, dry mountain climate.

Tip Many individuals and couples opt for massage treatments in their own guestrooms.

Gym

In keeping with the inn's distinct ambience, the gym is decorated with imported tapestries and artwork and contains several cardio machines (ellipticals, treadmills, bikes) as well as free weights. Yoga and personal training can be arranged.

Dining

The full breakfasts—featuring homemade granola, fresh fruit, artisan breads, and savory Southwestern dishes—are a grand treat at the Five Graces. You can dine in the sunny courtyard, in the art-filled dining room before the fire, or back in your room.

Tip There's no on-site restaurant, but guests can order room service from 315 Restaurant & Wine Bar, which is just around the corner, during the restaurant's regular business hours.

Drinking

There's no bar, but complimentary drinks and hors d'oeuvres are served fireside in the inviting lobby each afternoon.

What's Nearby

Getting Around

The inn is along historic Old Santa Fe Trail, a few blocks from Santa Fe’s historic Plaza and within steps of numerous attractions, shops, and restaurants. A car or Uber is handy for exploring farther afield, to Museum Hill or the Santa Fe Opera, for example.

Restaurants

Across the street from and providing room service to Five Graces, 315 Restaurant & Wine Bar (2-minute walk) is a cozy and sophisticated spot for modern French fare prepared with an emphasis on local and seasonal ingredients. The bar is a lively spot for a glass of Burgundy during the early evening hours. A short stroll down Old Santa Fe Trail, casual Santa Fe Bite (5-minute walk) serves juicy green-chile cheeseburgers that are the stuff of legend. You'll see everyone from local politicos to visiting tourists feasting on filet mignon, prime rib, and potato-almond-crusted ruby red trout at see-and-be-seen Rio Chama Steakhouse (5-minute walk), which is next to the New Mexico State Capitol building.

Bars

Since 1944, the rambling Pink Adobe (3-minute walk), which is right around the corner from the Five Graces, has been a go-to for cocktails, New Mexican food, and hot apple pie for dessert. We especially recommend the restaurant's Dragon Room for drinks and people-watching. The Rooftop Cantina (8-minute walk) adjacent to long-popular Coyote Cafe is an enchanting locale for margaritas and tacos on a warm afternoon.
