Four Kachinas B&B

512 Webber St., Santa Fe, New Mexico 87505, USA

Why We Like It

There are few properties with more elegantly designed and romantic rooms in this price range in Santa Fe. Four Kachinas is intimate and relaxing, in a quiet residential neighborhood, yet it's an easy walk to the Plaza and a number of noteworthy museums. Breakfasts are also ample and delicious.

Fodor's Expert Review

The beautifully furnished sister inn to El Farolito, which is just around the corner, Four Kachinas has six plush guest rooms and occupies a vintage red-roofed adobe house on a residential street in the city's desirable South Capitol neighborhood—a location that's both quiet and within an easy walk of many Downtown attractions. The innkeepers are long-time Santa Feans with a great knowledge of the area—they're happy to dispense advice on local sightseeing and dining. The common lounge is warmly decorated and accessible 24/7, and in the mornings, it's the sight a generous home-cooked breakfast, which is included in the rates.

Room

Each room is designed with a style related to Santa Fe, from Native American to Spanish Colonial, and the well-chosen artwork and hand-crafted furniture beautifully carries out the theme. You'll find colorful kachina dolls and Native American–pattern textiles in the Kachina Room, and Mexican folk art and antiques—including two striking iron beds—in the San Miguel Room. Standard amenities include large flat-screen TVs, individual climate control, and plush robes. Most rooms have private exterior entrances, and some rooms have either two beds or an additional sleeper sofa and can thus accommodate three or four guests.

Tip All but one room (Chimayó) has a patio, but the Digneo and Baumann rooms—which are a bit smaller than the others and are also the only two without outdoor entrances—share an outdoor area, which makes it a popular choice for couples of friends traveling together.

Bathroom

Decor and artwork in the bathrooms is consistent with the Southwestern themes chosen for each guestroom. Bathrooms are fairly large for a small inn, and some have clawfoot tubs and other romantic touches.

Lobby

The attractive lobby–guest lounge is where breakfast is served each morning, and coffee, tea, baked goodies, and other refreshments are set out throughout the day. There's also a common refrigerator for guest use.

Dining

The B&B has no restaurant, but rates include a stellar buffet-style breakfast that always features a hot entree along with fruit, yogurt, cereals, and freshly baked pastries.

Drinking

There's no bar, but if you've got wine to chill or beer, you're welcome to store it in the refrigerator in the guest lounge, which is accessible around the clock.

What's Nearby

Getting Around

Located in the close-in South Capitol neighborhood, the inn is within walking distance of many attractions and businesses, and a car isn't a necessity, but it can come in handy for exploring points farther out. There's limited free off-street parking at the inn, and parking on the street is both safe and relatively plentiful, too.

Restaurants

The sophisticated contemporary American eatery Restaurant Martin (4-minute walk) is helmed by James Beard–nominated chef Martin Rios and is a wonderful venue for a special meal—the patio is especially inviting when the weather is warm. For hearty and authentic Northern New Mexican fare, from red-chile pork tamales to sopaipillas stuffed with beans and smothered in chile, it's hard to beat Tomasita's (10-minute walk), which occupies an old train depot.

Bars

The venerable Dragon Room (3-minute walk), which is inside the historic Pink Adobe restaurant, is a lively spot for margaritas and conversation. Stroll to the edge of the Railyard District to inviting Santa Fe Spirits Tasting Room (10-minute walk) to sample locally crafted calvados-style apple brandy, single-malt whiskey, and artisan gin.
