The New Mexico Rail Runner Express, a commuter-train line, provides a picturesque, hassle-free way to make a day trip to Santa Fe. These sleek bi-level trains with large windows run south for about 35 miles to the suburb of Belén (stopping in Isleta Pueblo and Los Lunas), and north about 65 miles on a scenic run right into the historic heart of Santa Fe, with stops in Bernalillo, Kewa Pueblo (Santo Domingo), and a few other spots. Albuquerque stops are Downtown, at the Alvarado Transportation Center (where ABQ Ride offers free bus service to the airport), and at the north end of town at Journal Center/Los Ranchos. On weekdays, the trains run about eight or nine times per day, from about 6 am until 9 pm. Four trains usually run on Saturdays and three usually run on Sundays. Fares are zone-based (one-way from $2 to $8), but day passes are just $1 more; all are discounted with an online purchase, and bicycles always ride free. Free connections to local bus service are available at most stations—keep your train ticket to get on.
