Although Downtown doesn't have many formal attractions short of its anchoring arts scene, this neighborhood rewards those who take a closer look. Along Central Avenue and the parallel Gold Avenue there's a trail of architectural detail, from the Simms Building to the Venetian Gothic Revival Occidental Insurance Building, and the federal courthouse’s Spanish Mission pile. Hints of Albuquerque’s 1880s railroad-era and Route 66 past abound; contemporary murals and a strong public art presence add to the appeal.
