Fodor's Expert Review Sandpiper Inn
Spring Lake, New Jersey, 07762, USA
Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.
A survivor. When a fire tore through the neighborhood in 1900, this Victorian summer cottage was the only building that survived. It found a second life as an inn, one that, according to the current owners, was favored by Albert Einstein during its early years. These days guests are invited to stay in high-ceilinged, carpeted rooms with modern baths (a few have Jacuzzi tubs) and a tasteful combination of contemporary furnishings and wicker chairs, as well as linens, drapes, and wallpaper adorned with floral prints. For rooms with the highest ceilings, choose the second floor. The best ocean views are from the cozier fourth floor rooms. Discounts are extended to those staying multiple nights and meals are available from the on-site restaurant, Bistro by the Beach.
PROS
- one block to the beach
- indoor heated pool
CONS
- children under 14-years-old are not welcome
