America’s Biggest Indoor Theme Park to Open Inside Wildly Over-The-Top Mall

This theme park is going to be All That.

Whether you’re currently a kid or you’re old enough to remember the moral handwringing over Ren & Stimpy, there’s something for everyone at the forthcoming Nickelodeon theme park in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

Nickelodeon Universe will be the largest indoor theme park when it opens its doors on October 25. Located inside the American Dream mall, this theme park will be 8.5 acres and feature 27 rides and attractions.

Welcome to the Universe

The park will feature experiences that range from all-ages fun (like the Dora the Explorer themed El Circulo Del Cielo Ferris wheel) to grown-up thrill rides (like the SpongeBob SquarePants Rock Bottom Plunge roller coaster).

In addition to a carousel, and rollercoasters, the park will also feature three attractions that will require their own separate ticket, two of which are themed mini-golf courses. The third is the Dutchman’s Deck Adventure Course, a rope course that culminates in the longest indoor zip line in North America.

The park will also be populated by Nickelodeon characters, like SpongeBob SquarePants and Dora the Explorer, who appear on a timed basis at certain points within the park so that meet and greets can be planned for accordingly.

And (because what’s a Nickelodeon-related anything without its iconic green goo) there will be plenty of Slime and live entertainment on the theme park’s Nickelodeon Slime Stage.

Tickets can be purchased at onsite kiosks and online. Admission for the All Access level is $50 and includes access to all of the rides and experiences. The General Access level is $40 and does not include access to rides denoted as “thrilling”–they recommend this for individuals who have no interest in “thrilling” rides or who are below 48 inches in height. Children two-years-old and younger get in for free. Visitors can opt for point passes, which allow visitors to essentially pay per ride.

The Mall That Dreams Are Made of

The park is just one component of the American Dream mall. The mall, which has been in development for over a decade and a half, is roughly three million square feet in size. What will be filling up all that space, you ask? Turns out, what won’t be in that space may be the better question.

And, come late November, Nickelodeon won’t even be the only park inside the mall. The DreamWorks Water Park will be the largest indoor water park, boasting everything from a wave pool, a lazy river, the tallest indoor body slide, as well as themed attractions like Madagascar’s Rain Forest and Shrek’s Swamp.

More of a snow bunny? You’ll soon be able to skate on the mall’s NHL regulation-size rink and, in early December, you’ll be able to ski and snowboard indoors and year-round. Big SNOW will be a “real-snow park” that promises to appeal to skiers and snowboarders of all skill levels.

And then, finally, in March of 2020, you’ll be able to do the thing we most associate with malls—shop. Although a trip to H&M seems like a pretty mundane way to spend your mall visit when you could hop from riding roller coasters to swimming to skiing all in the space of the same afternoon.
