Lincoln and North Woodstock

These neighboring towns at the White Mountains' southwestern corner are the western gateway to the famed Kancamagus Highway. They form a lively resort base camp, especially for metro Boston families who can make an easy two-hour drive straight up Interstate 93. Although the town itself isn't much of an attraction, myriad festivals and activities keep Lincoln swarming with visitors year-round.

Tiny North Woodstock maintains a more inviting village feel and is close to some easy, scenic, family-friendly hikes, such as Georgiana Falls and the slightly more ambitious Indian Head Trail.
