The latest entry in the Viva Italiano! culinary scene, Brera Osteria at the Grand Canal Shoppes (replacing Sixth + Mill) is a Milan-inspired creation sitting on the Venetian's replica of St. Mark's Square. Taking its name from the Brera neighborhood of Milan, the menu focuses on Milanese favorites. Try these mouth-waterers: braised pork shank, lamp chops, the farinata (a crepe that's both soft and crunchy), calamari, and branzino. Top it off with premium Italian wines and cocktails for an experience that aims to be thoroughly and authentically Northern Italian. Oh, and there's pizza, too.

As the name suggests, this hip bistro focuses on small plates (few of which cost more than $10), reflecting most of the world's cuisines. Order several and you've got a meal, made even better with one of Firefly's signature sangrias or mojitos, available by the glass or pitcher. On any given day, options might include ham-and-cheese croquettes, meatballs in a sherry-tomato sauce, marinated and grilled octopus, and shrimp in lemon-garlic-butter sauce. There are usually a few heartier entrées, such as a rib-eye steak or paella, offered as well. For dessert, order the rich chocolate-and-cherry bread pudding with a sangria reduction. Dine in the colorful dining room or outside on the cheerful patio.

This smart neighborhood restaurant that relocated to the downtown Summerlin shopping district serves food intended to coordinate nicely with the restaurant's interesting, affordable, and plentiful (as in, nearly 30 selections by the glass) wine list and craft beer selection. The menu features salads, sandwiches, pizzas, pasta, and seafood, as well as traditional dishes such as short ribs and chicken Parmesan or marsala. Desserts range from austere Stilton and port to positively decadent dark-chocolate fondue. The dining room is brick-lined and candlelit; the counter is a great spot if you're dining alone, and there's a patio for pleasant evenings (if you don't mind the urban-center view).

Enjoy a loud dose of kitsch at this gargantuan offshoot of Munich's most famous brewery. The interior beer garden can make you feel like a tourist within a tourist town. As you down a brew in those notorious liter mugs, the theme-park trappings somehow become more and more agreeable on too-hot Vegas evenings. Pair your beer with hearty Bavarian classics, including Bavarian potato soup with sausage, Wiener schnitzel, goulash, and Schweinebraten, or updated dishes such as chicken schnitzel salad or vegan frankfurters. For dessert, try apple strudel or Black Forest chocolate cake. They've covered the oompah here, too: bands brought in from Germany keep things as lively as they are back in Munich.

Frequented by local professionals and ladies-who-lunch, this spacious suburban spot serves farm-to-table–inspired dishes. Expect to see a lot of free-range poultry, whole grains, and seasonal produce on your plate. Chic, rustic decor—soft hues, reclaimed wood, and antique mirrors—lends a casual airiness to the dining room and conveys sophistication, despite its gingham-clad waitstaff. Appetizers, sides, and salads are stars here: "My Wife's Favorite Salad" combines locally sourced greens with duck confit, pine nuts, and pomegranate, crowned with a sunny-side-up egg, if you wish. In addition to caramelized sea scallops, charred filet mignon, and Nana's Chicken Curry, there are several offerings for the lighter appetite (and budget). Indulge in the Brown Bag Baked Apple Pie for dessert. A happy hour menu available from 3 to 6 pm bridges the gap between lunch and dinner.

Independent restaurants in Las Vegas have such a struggle that Nora's is a refreshing success story. It's so popular with locals that it was able to build a new home, ground up, within walking distance of the old storefront location (now the equally worthwhile Monzu Italian Oven, owned by a family member) that fueled its 24-year reputation. The newer building adds patio seating and a Josper charcoal oven/grill but remains a dark wood-and-white table cloth kind of place with fetching food and a nice ambience for repeat customers. There’s traditional osso buco and a fine calamari, but the adventurous won’t be disappointed in Nora’s collection of unique dishes such as wild boar papardelle, or the “Crazy Alfredo,” which combines fettuccine with shrimp, chicken, sausage, roasted bell peppers, sun-dried tomatoes, and jalapeños. Another favorite is the "Alla Nora" of baked spaghetti and eggplant with a meat sauce plus pesto and Parmesan.

Eleven-time world pizza champion Tony Gemignani installed four ovens in this heavily renovated, industrial-chic space in the Downtown Third district so he could produce all styles of pizza: Neapolitan, Romano, American, New York, classic Italian, Californian, New York/New Haven, Sicilian, and Chicago. Don't neglect the starters, though; the fried green beans with garlic and olive oil and beer-battered fried artichokes are worth the trip alone. The group table with a roulette wheel in the center is quite a sight.

The Rainforest Cafe moved out of its longtime berth in the MGM Grand in 2015, but its current location just up the Strip on Harmon Avenue still has plenty of animatronic animals. The menu offers an eclectic mix of classic American food like fried chicken and pot roast with a mix of pastas, burgers, and Caribbean and South American influences. The atmosphere is kind here and includes weather and jungle sounds, as well as a 25-foot faux boa constricter, Julius Squeezer. The menu is kid-friendly, too, with selections such as Python Pasta and Jurassic Chicken Tidbits just for them.

Once you get past the bland office-park setting, you'll find that this sumptuously decorated spot near Red Rock Resort has plenty to recommend in the way of contemporary Mediterranean fare. A Spanish- and Italian-influenced menu is enhanced by a large selection of wines by the glass. Start with one of the wood-fired flatbreads, or an item such as pan-seared crab cakes with tarragon cream and roasted peppers. From here the menu branches out to sandwiches, pastas, meat, and seafood. A highlight is the bouillabaisse with mussels, clams, red snapper, shrimp, scallops and calamari. As the restaurant's name suggests, there's an impressive wine list here—and wonderful cheeses and charcuterie. At midday, look for the power-lunchers who escape the beaten path. On nice evenings, ask for a table on the outdoor patio, where the view is better than you might expect.
