Why We Like It

Westin Lake Las Vegas is the perfect destination for those who want a different kind of Vegas vacation, one that emphasizes relaxation and outdoor activity. There are no clubs or gambling here, just reflective walks and marshmallow roasts by the fire pit in the evenings.

Fodor's Expert Review

This lavish resort on the shore of Lake Las Vegas has richly appointed rooms, with arched windows that offer sweeping views of the glittering lake and desert. There's even a small beach where soft, white sand is trucked in every summer. Our favorite spot on the property is the Arabesque Lounge, a Moroccan-inspired bar and sitting area just off the main lobby. Here bartenders pour the resort's signature rum-and-Tuaca cocktail—named, appropriately, the Casablanca. The Moroccan theme continues at the on-site Spa Moulay, which specializes in oil massages. Throughout the year, the resort hosts concerts in a ballroom.

Room

If all you know of a Vegas vacation are neon lights and dancing fountains, you’re in for a pleasant surprise at Westin Lake Las Vegas Resort & Spa. Located 20 miles southeast of the Las Vegas Strip in Henderson, the Moroccan-themed Westin boasts a view of the lake (OK, it’s man-made, but any kind of body of water is impressive in the desert) from its comfortable rooms, which range from traditional rooms all the way to presidential suites. The most opulent is the 1,900-square-foot villa, which boasts a living room, a fireplace and a grand terrace overlooking the lake.

You Should Know The Westin has a No Party Policy, which means that you can’t throw ragers in your room. Did we mention this resort prizes serenity above all else? If you’re not the “hanging out by the fire pit while gazing at the lake and counting stars” type, this probably isn’t the destination for you.

Bathroom

The rooms are spacious enough without the ostentatiousness of their Strip brethren, and the bathroom features a rainforest shower to promote circulation and melt tight muscles from a day of paddleboarding on the lake. The Westin has its own trademarked bath amenities, Westin White Tea Heavenly. Pair the fluffy bathrobe with the provided slippers and you can gaze at the stars from your balcony.

Lobby

Serenity is the keyword here. Think a spalike atmosphere enveloping the entire facility. It’s calming and rejuvenating, without the crush of crowds you’d find in other Las Vegas resorts. There are couches in the lobby overlooking the lake where you can enjoy a cocktail or read a book.

Pool

There are two spacious swimming pools heated year-round, as well as a white-sand beach where kids can build sand castles. There are plenty of water activities on the lake such as stand-up paddleboarding, kayaking and water biking.

Spa

Nurturing mind, body, and spirit is the main goal at g Aveda Spa Lago, where a bevy of services meant to rejuvenate await. There is also a full-service salon for gussying up on a date night.

Gym

The 3,500-square-food WestinWORKOUT® Fitness Studio is open 24 hours a day and features treadmills, stationary bicycles, elliptical trainers, chair climbers and a wide array of weight-training machines.

Tip While you can opt to work out inside, why not take advantage of the outdoors? The resort is located next to the Jack Nicklaus-designed Reflection Bay Golf Club, while out on the lake, you can fish, windsurf, kayak, paddleboard and more. The grounds also has jogging paths, as well as bike rentals, a putting green, short-court tennis, paddle tennis, basketball and volleyball.

Dining

Marssa Steak and Sushi, an Asian fusion restaurant, is the culinary jewel of the resort, offering fresh seafood prepared by highly creative chefs in an upscale setting. Rick’s Cafe is a more casual spot, where you can have your meal out on the patio.

Drinking

The Arabesque Lounge in the lobby is a good place for an afternoon cocktail, with its dramatic arched windows leading out onto the patio that overlooks the lake. Marssa also offers a Wa-Sake Time from 5:30-6:30, where you can sample numerous kinds of sake.
