Fodor's Expert Review Cornish Manor

$$ Oakland French

In its long life, this spectacular Victorian mansion, built just after the Civil War, has been a judge's summer home, and a speakeasy, to name a few incarnations. Today the restaurant is a local landmark known for the elegant dishes prepared by the owner, a native of France. Try the delicately flavored rainbow trout pan fried in almond butter, an immense 10-ounce crab cake, tortellini swimming in a rich Newburg sauce and topped with chunks of crab, or the zesty green peppercorn steak with brandy sauce. After dinner take a stroll around the manor, set on 7 lovely acres.
