Fodor's Expert Review O'Callaghan Hotel
174 West St., Annapolis, Maryland, 21401-2824, USA
Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.
When this Irish-owned and -operated hotel opened in 2002, it was the city's first new downtown hotel in more than two decades. Floor-length drapes and the lush, blue carpets flecked in gold colors were custom-made in Ireland (much of the attentive staff is from the Emerald Isle as well). Meeting rooms are named after counties in Ireland, and maps and pictures of the Old Country adorn the elegant guest rooms. The first-floor restaurant and bar overlook West Street and carry a limited but fine selection of entrées.
PROS
- Irish charm (furnishing, bar on the premises)
- high-speed Internet in the rooms
- handicapped accessible
CONS
- a little under a mile from the City Dock
