Schoodic Peninsula

The only section of Acadia National Park that sits on the mainland is at the southern end of the Schoodic Peninsula in the town of Winter Harbor. The landscape of Schoodic Peninsula's craggy coastline, towering evergreens, and views over Frenchman Bay are breathtaking year-round—and less crowded than over on Mount Desert Island.

During the summer season you can take a passenger ferry ($15 one-way, $30 round-trip) from Bar Harbor to Winter Harbor, where you can catch the free Island Explorer bus, which stops throughout this section of the park. Don’t forget: you'll need to take the ferry to get back to Bar Harbor.
