The shoreline of the Boothbay Peninsula is a craggy stretch of inlets where pleasure craft of all sizes and types bob alongside lobster boats and sightseeing vessels. Boothbay Harbor is something of a smaller version of Bar Harbor: touristy, but friendly and fun, with pretty, winding streets and lots to explore. Commercial Street, Wharf Street, Townsend Avenue, and the By-Way are lined with shops and ice-cream parlors.
Be sure to take in the coast and islands from the water aboard one of many sightseeing cruises. One of the biggest draws here is the stunning Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, a short drive north in the town of Boothbay. Its more than 300 acres encompass spectacular plantings and natural landscapes, walking trails, and a delightful children's garden.
