Schoodic Peninsula

Acadia National Park’s only mainland section sits at the bottom of Schoodic Peninsula, extending to its very tip. As at the park over on Mount Desert Island, visitors to the Schoodic District hike, bike, camp, and savor spectacular views. Crowds are smaller, though they are increasing, and it's here that you'll find Winter Harbor and Gouldsboro.

Granite steps lead to rocky shorefront on tucked-away street ends in the wealthy summer community, which gives an inkling of Bar Harbor before a 1947 fire destroyed many mansions there. Surrounding Winter Harbor, Gouldsboro is also a proud lobstering and fishing community, sprinkled with coastal villages. Guarded by its namesake light, Prospect Harbor stretches along Route 186. Tiny Wonsqueak and Birch harbors flash after you exit Acadia. On the peninsula’s most easterly shore, Corea is tucked away from it all on a small roundish harbor, the open ocean beyond.
