Fodor's Expert Review Harbourside Inn
48 Harborside Rd., Northeast Harbor, Maine, USA Fodor's Choice
Built in 1888 and once part of a summer colony, this hillside inn—run by the same family since 1977—is an easy base for exploring Acadia National Park, as you can connect from local trails here to get there. A unique collection of maps hangs in the public rooms, many of Acadia National Park. Rooms have hardwood floors, and oriental rugs, and some of the bathrooms have marble sinks and wonderful tubs for soaking. If you're lucky, you'll get a room with wood-burning fireplaces or a kitchenette.
PROS

- guest parlor with working fireplace
CONS
- no TVs in guest or common rooms
- close to but not on the water
