Why We Like It

Those who want to enjoy the late night party scene in River North should definitely move this property up the list for places to stay. Where many properties highlight Chicago's iconic architecture and destinations, ACME channels a mix of the grittier local art and nightlife that make the neighborhood such a fun central location. Where it lacks certain luxury features (such as a spa), it makes up with something totally left-field (the only hot tub bar in town). You're more likely to get a hangover while staying here than a relaxing night in bed, but the property is ready for that with your morning wake up call and Hair of the Dog.

Fodor's Expert Review

Retro rock 'n roll, Technorati, and industrial chic mingle at this eclectic boutique hotel in heart of River North. Originally built in 1924 as The Berkshire Hotel, the property features a unique I-shape layout with original terrazzo flooring and replicated medallions—but this property feels anything but old. Think tech-friendly perks like complimentary Apple watches, Snapchat glasses, and Wi-Fi hotspots for check out. Suites come equipped with Bowers & Wilkins Zeppelins. And if it's any testament to the type of scene here, the property features a Hair of the Dog package with a $25 gift card to M Burger, Advil, and Gatorade.

Room

Rooms tend to run on the tight side, with an eclectic, millennial-friendly modern style. That said, they make up for it with incredibly comfy Serta Suite Plush beds and stellar goodies like on-demand televisions with connective streaming services, cheap minibar pricing ($5 can beers, $2 sodas), seasonal DIY cocktail Cocktail Courier kits, and Amazon Echos with ACME guided recommendations.

You Should Know Rise and shine with Morning Joe, the property's scheduled wake up call service with coffee service. Rooms also come with a digital key service, so you won't have to worry about keeping track during a fun night out.

Bathroom

Strangely enough, the bathroom just might be a bit cooler than the room. Enormous Pop Art red lips on the mirror serve as a night light, while galvanized pipe towel racks and black boxer-style robes keep with the industrial vibe. Standing showers are outfitted with rainfall heads and Lather products.

Lobby

Nodding to Chicago's industrial areas, the small lobby is outfitted with a colorful mix of graffiti, raw materials, and some rock 'n roll inspired decor. The concierge is small, so you're better suited to head to one of the property's three bars if you need to place to wait for a bit.

Gym

Inspired by Los Angeles's famous Muscle Beach, the chain linked fence gym is admittedly a bizarre touch. But for those who want to get their sweat on, there's a handful of cardio machines, weight lifting and boxing gear available.

Dining

For a sit down meal, you'll probably want to head elsewhere, but West Town Bakery on the first floor does a solid daytime menu with baked breakfast goods and sandwiches.

Drinking

Booze is a big feature at this property, featuring three incredibly cool bars usually packed with locals. Nodding to its storied Prohibition-era mob history is the Berkshire Room, featuring trend-forward, classic, and bespoke craft cocktails. Tucked away on the second floor is Bodega Bar, a quick-serve spot with fun slushies, bottled cocktails and whiskey flasks. If you have a group, it's worth trying to book Bunny Slope, a private 1960s themed ski bunny hot for 10 with an actual hot tub and fireplace.

Tip The best seat in the house is the intimate couch at Bodega overlooking Berkshire Room that's great for people watching.
