Fodor's Expert Review Hualani's Restaurant
Hualani's is bright, airy and expansive, with an unobstructed view of the ocean, delivering diners a casual yet upscale experience that makes up for a menu that is rather limited in scope. Though it doesn’t offer a wide range of choices, the food is simply and deftly prepared in an Asian fusion style. The fish and beef are locally sourced, while many of the vegetables are harvested from an on-site farm. The pan-seared opah (moonfish) is delicate, while the seared ahi is crusted in sesame seeds. Those seeking local flavors will want to try the roasted kabocha pumpkin, the kimchee fried rice with Spam, or the pineapple pie for dessert. Lunches are a good value, with fish tacos, sandwiches, poke bowls, and burgers served alongside that amazing view. Fresh produce stars in the Tuesday night tasting menu created from whatever is in season on the farm, including Hawaiian staples like taro and breadfruit.
