1. Destin Commons
This open-air lifestyle center features 69 high-end specialty shops as well as dining options, a 14-screen theater, a miniature train, and a nautical theme park for kids. You can't miss the mega-size Bass Pro Shops, a two-story extravaganza that includes an aquarium and a massive selection of outdoor gear, from boats to clothes to fishing hooks. Also on-site is Uncle Buck's FishBowl & Grill, an underwater-theme bowling alley and restaurant.

This town center–style shopping and dining complex is on the area's main thoroughfare, just a hop, skip, and jump from the Sandestin Resort. Chicos, J.Jill, Orvis, and Tommy Bahama are among the national brands represented here. Sunset Shoes and The Zoo Gallery are some of the unique local shops worthy of a visit. Dining options include Another Broken Egg Cafe, Vin'tij Food + Wine, and Emeril's Coastal. In addition, the menu at the state-of-the-art Boulevard 10 movie theater gives the phrase "dinner and a show" a whole new meaning.

4. Oyster City Brewing Company
For a truly local taste of Apalachicola, sample the craft beer made on-site at Oyster City, and buy a few cans, crowlers, and growlers of your favorites for home. The brewery has developed a devoted statewide following for its creations since opening in 2013. It keeps 14 brews in stock, with the award-winning Hooter Brown, made with locally sourced Tupelo honey, on tap. There are no formal tours, but employees are happy to show you how the magic happens.

Apalachicola may be a small town, but Oysterbones has one of the largest selection of pet products you'll ever see. Unique to the shop are locally crafted dog biscuits made with oyster shells that look good enough for a human to eat. There are oodles of supplies and a special area for dogs to give toys a test drive.
