Why We Like It

This is Key West at its historic best. The location is fantastic, you’re just a short stroll from the action, and steps from the ocean. The staff actually enjoys having you as their guest. The rooms are so pretty. The bathrooms are a totally unexpected and pleasant surprise. And that pool deck! Can we all just move in? But in all seriousness, we think of the Southernmost House as “the Goldie Locks of B&Bs,” it is just right--in every way. And you should definitely come live the fairy tale.

Fodor's Expert Review

This Victorian beauty is perhaps the most photographed home in Key West, for good reason. It just oozes tropical charm with its bright turquoise and pink exterior, and turrets that stretch gracefully into the sky. Besides good looks, the service is excellent, and you get free breakfast with the ocean as your backdrop.

You Should Know There is no elevator so you’ll have to tackle one or two beautifully spindled, yet steep staircases if you’re not on the bottom floor.

Room

Spacious rooms offer a delightful blend of old and new, with four-poster beds and wooden floors, and modern conveniences like a flat screen TV and a mini fridge. The architectural nuances of the ceilings, entryways, and corner nooks are a blissful reminder of just how special historic homes can be. Courtyard rooms have step-out access to the pool.

You Should Know There is no stopping the sun from shining in and disturbing your sought-after sleep early each morning. The plantation blinds and thin curtains just don’t cut it.

Bathroom

Beautiful and luxurious from floor to ceiling with marble vanities and showers, ionic blow dryers, and sensuous body butters, soaps, and bathing supplies. Some rooms have whirlpool tubs. Wait, is this the Ritz? Could be.

Lobby

The Tiffany glass ceiling that hides under the overhang will knock your flip flops off. Step inside the double doors and take a moment to notice the details, from the carved feet of the furniture to the handcrafted ceiling medallions and chandeliers. Romance is definitely in the air, so is a little salt from the sea breeze.

Pool

Perched on the edge of the Atlantic, this is one of the most scenic pool decks in all of the Florida Keys. Brick pavers surround the elongated, zero-entry, heated pool, lined by stately date palms and stylish chaise loungers. Pink umbrellas add a shady splash of color, and bright pink pool towels are perfectly fluffy.

Tip Strung between coconut palms, you’ll find a few turquoise-colored hammocks just beyond the pool.

Dining

Breakfast is included and served in the room right off the lobby. Although it sounds like standard continental fare, it’s fresh and tasty with boiled eggs, cold cuts, mini quiche, cheeses, breads, yogurts, and juices.

You Should Know Get there early. Many guests tend to pile on the free food and leave none for late sleepers.

Drinking

The poolside bar is a relaxing place to sit in the shade and sip on a cold cocktail of your choice. They’re open to the public so you’ll also meet a few locals. If the bar stools are taken, there are several tables.

You Should Know Although this is a non-smoking resort, some patrons tend to smoke at the bar.

Grounds

Adjacent to the private parking lot (a big bonus in Key West), is their onsite gift shop filled with colorful Tiki-themed souvenirs. Walk by the water and you'll find a large area for sunning right alongside the ocean, complete with a long line of lounge chairs.

Tip Just outside the entry gates, you'll find Key West Marine Park. Walk directly in the water and snorkel one of the best spots in Key West.
