Why We Like It

Parrot Key is hidden luxury, and a haven among the crowds and noise of the city. The buildings are architecturally exactly what you hope to see here with their conch-style clapboard exteriors, bright Adirondack chairs, gingerbread trim, and white picket-fenced lined paths. It's so serene and tropical, you won't even mind being far from the Key West hot spots.

For families, this is an excellent choice because you can choose a large 3-bedroom unit and stay in total comfort (and keep what happens on Duval Street, on Duval Street). While the quietude might not be what you thought you wanted, after you've had it, you'll look forward to returning to your off-the-path paradise.

Fodor's Expert Review

From the busy road, you can’t see much, just a long driveway leading to a resort that is nowhere near the action of Old Town. But don’t judge just yet. With a free shuttle, pastel-painted villas, white picket porches, and onsite watersports like few resorts can offer, you’ll soon see you’ve made a wise choice.

Room

Spacious guestroom, suite, or villa? Relax, it’s all good. With glorious splashes of island color, from sunset red to key lime green, the décor is upscale tropical in every way. Larger units have fully equipped kitchens, smaller units a mini fridge. Bedding is comfortable and your view can be of the water or the stately palms. All have Wi-Fi, flat screens, and a Keurig coffee maker. The colorful, hand-painted furniture makes the whole room feel happy.

Bathroom

Your typical upgraded bathroom with painted walls, modern vanities, good lighting, walk-in shower, and sought-after L'Occitane products. It's spacious and the makeup mirror comes in handy.

Lobby

If you've been to Oceans Edge Resort on Stock Island, it's like déjà vu. Gorgeous striped wood floors, impressive art on all the walls, a concierge desk, and a walk-up check-in counter. It's like getting to visit an art gallery.

Pool

Four pools onsite, and we bet you've never seen anything quite like them. Besides sparkling with lots of wood loungers topped with comfy, colorful cushions, each is surrounded in total lushness by tropical foliage. And popping out of the foliage is a collection of outdoor whimsical art that adds an element of fun to your poolside retreat. Not to mention, to get to each pool area, you'll enter through a unique wooden door--hung amid the flowers, trees, and vines.

Spa

No spa onsite.

Gym

For the size of the resort (5 acres), the fitness center is small and boring. A few treadmills, some weights, a water cooler and a few towels on a shelf. No TV, no extra anything, no views.

Dining

Have breakfast or lunch by the pool at Cafe Blue. Covered seating is available.

Drinking

Cafe Blue has a full liquor bar that's open from 11 a.m. to about sunset.
