Why We Like It

This is a place to escape to. Spacious one- and two-bedroom accommodations, balconies that overlook the Atlantic, a relaxing pool area, and a location that’s within walking distance to great restaurants.

And, if you’re looking for tranquility, it’s here. You’ll have nothing to do but enjoy the sound of the waves and the rustling palm fronds (translated, that means you’ll have poor Wi-Fi so you won’t be on your devices, and there are no amenities onsite to keep you busy).

But, you have convenient underground parking, lots of watersports nearby, and all the Key West craziness is only a few minutes away.

Fodor's Expert Review

With its tin gabled roofs, white picket railings, and French doors that open to the sea, Coconut Beach Resort is, visually, everything you’d want a Key West property to be. And, it has the only natural sand beach. Sure, it has its downside, like being on the quiet end of the island… or is that just another plus?

Tip To be happy here, dish out the money for a one- or two-bedroom. Otherwise, you may get stuck in a tiny, street-view studio.

Room

Clive & Daniel, a renown hospitality design group, recently updated these units. You’ll find a fully updated kitchen with stainless appliances, new floors and all new living, dining, and bedroom furniture that is comfortable and colorful, just like Key West. Guests love the balconies with rockers, pastel painted walls, and high ceilings. All have flat screens and sketchy Wi-Fi.

You Should Know There is no elevator, or bell service, so if your room is on the second or third floor, you’ll be dragging your suitcase up the wooden stairs by yourself.

Bathroom

The vanities have been updated, but the style of the bathroom depends on your unit. You’ll either get an updated walk-in glass shower or a tub and shower combo with a simple curtain. Size is OK, nothing notable or memorable.

Tip Bring shampoo and conditioner. They're supplied, but you'll be happier with your own.

Lobby

Light, bright, and glamorously tropical with a comfortable seating area, serene ocean-inspired artwork, overhead lighting, and glass casement entry doors. It’s inviting and welcoming and a preview of the updated rooms.

Tip Walk in with a good attitude and you should get a good attitude in return. It's as sketchy as the Wi-Fi, so you just never know.

Pool

The cobalt-tiled waterfall isn’t even the first thing you notice about this freeform saltwater pool--that’s because the views of the Atlantic are mesmerizing. For an even closer ocean view, get into their in-ground spa. It’s the ideal place to catch sunrise or sunset. Towels are in your room.

You Should Know You’re on your own here. No poolside food, drink, or service. It’s just you, the sun, and the breeze.

Spa

No spa onsite.

Gym

No gym onsite.

Dining

No onsite dining, however, you’ll get a key that opens the back gate--and that gate leads to Louie’s Backyard. That’s not a person, it’s the name of one of the best restaurants on the island. if you want to grill out, there are a few gas grills by the pool.

Drinking

No drinking venue onsite, but Louie's backyard has an upstairs bar and it's right next door.

Beach

They boast the only 'natural sand beach' in Key West, but it’s only about 20’ in width, and sometimes the seaweed takes over. At low tide, you can walk right down the steps and get your toes in the sand. Just don't expect much.

For a casual lunch or dinner right on Higgs Beach, visit SALUTE! On The Beach (7-minute walk). Soups, salads, and fantastic yellowtail snapper.
