Dream South Beach

Why We Like It

With close proximity to Ocean Drive's scene, the Dream offers sweet rooms and a blend of relaxation and party atmosphere.

Fodor's Expert Review

This trendy boutique hotel, which is right in the center of the South Beach action, merges two refurbished, archetypal 1939 art deco buildings as a single project of eclectic modernism, with whimsically decorated interiors in a result that is at once trippy and cool. Rooms have colored bed lighting, bold bedroom chandeliers, and glass closets. And true to the boutique style, rooms are on the small side and often cater to a younger crowd searching for fast times in the Magic City. The see-through bathroom walls are a bit of a style overfunction and create some difficulty when sharing a room with friends or possibly even your significant other. But once you get past that, Dream is idyllic for ventures in hedonism: tanning on the beach (with quick access), making new friends (over sun-kissed libations on the roof), and late-night debauchery (crawling distance to most nightlife). Expect lots of fun on the rooftop by day or night; there's both a petite swimming pool and the 1970s-inspired pool lounge HIGHBAR, which kicks into gear at nightfall. The hotel also provides beach chairs on its very own designated section of beach just south of 11th Street.

Room

Most rooms are decorated in shades of blue and aqua to reflect the nearby ocean. Designer Michael Czysz's furnishings are mostly white to play on the cool shades. Beds are furnished with Egyptian cotton sheets and each room offers WiFi and an in-room mini bar. A writing area comes in handy.

Tip The Dream isn't on the beach, so don't expect an ocean room. However, some rooms do offer a direct view into the former Versace mansion.

Bathroom

Bathroom doors are semi-private, so plan according. Most rooms are equipped with shower only, for economy of space, and are furnished with robes and C.O Bigelow bath products.

Lobby

The indoor lobby is small, but a zenlike courtyard, that joins the two buildings together, is a good place to read or relzx with a cocktail.

Tip Ask for a complimentary welcome drink upon arrival.

Pool

A rooftop pool is heated yearlong and offers a view of nearby Ocean Drive and the beach beyond. Chairs, cabanas, and wait service are all available.

Tip In the evening, the rooftop pool area transforms into HIGHBAR lounge, with guests DJ's and a high energy pool party most nights.

Spa

The Shala Spa offers a host of traditional treatments like massage and facials, as well as new age rituals like chakra cleansing. If you spent too much time at the beach, a sun repair service helps hydrate and soothe your sunburn.

Dining

Celebrity chef Ralph Pagano's Naked Taco offers Mexican food and margaritas in a lively atmosphere. The restaurant serves breakfast and lunch, as well.

Drinking

HIGHBAR offers cocktails on the rooftop pool area and turns into a South Beach lounge most evenings. Naked Taco also has an extensive tequila collection and serves many custom crafted margaritas.
