Why We Like It

Pulsing with youthful energy, with a fantastic food and drink pedigree, and an inspirational art scene, Mystic Hotel promises a true San Francisco cultural experience.

Fodor's Expert Review

This historic property that survived the 1906 earthquake serves up a healthy dose of art, cuisine, and style. Local art lines the walls, and exhibits change by the seasons. Often the art was crafted specifically for the property, making the experience of wandering the halls akin to a museum. San Francisco residents frequent Charlie Palmer's on-site restaurant and bar.

Room

Compact guest rooms enlivened with brick walls feature locally-sourced honor bars (including jerky and gin crafted in San Francisco). Though the hotel has attempted to soundproof windows and bring in blackout curtains, city noise abounds, so request a higher floor.

You Should Know Fodor's readers complain of noise and thin walls. Light sleepers should bring ear plugs.

Bathroom

Bathrooms are equipped with tiled showers and vessel sinks.

Lobby

Guests enter the small whitewashed lobby showcasing local art installations, and a cage elevator delivers patrons to the signature Burritt Room and Tavern. The Berlinetta Lounge acts as the hotel's living room and meeting area.

Dining

Charlie Palmer's Burritt Room + Tavern pays homage to the city's rich history with classic interiors, large black and white photos of old San Francisco, and edible treats that evoke the eras of California's connectivity to its cuisine. Favorite dishes tend to be comfort foods like burgers, lasagna, and fried chicken. A small continental breakfast is served in the mornings to hotel guests for a fee.

Tip Not in the mood to socialize? Guests can order burgers to be delivered from the restaurant.

Drinking

Burritt Room + Tavern prides itself on crafting house-made ingredients in every cocktail served. Local herbs and fruits are muddled with gin distilled nearby. California wines shine as well.

What's Nearby

Getting Around

The property offers valet parking for a hefty fee. Most travelers abandon the car at home and take advantage of the hotel's proximity to nearby attractions, including the Moscone Center, Grace Cathedral, the Ferry Building and North Beach. When walkers tire, buses stop nearby and the Muni/BART station (which connects travelers to the San Francisco and Oakland airports) is within a 10-minute walk.

Restaurants

Foodies craving the city's best pastrami sandwich flock to Wise Sons Deli (7-minute walk) for elevated deli fare. The gospel brunch at farmerbrown (11-minute walk) is not to be missed, especially when they are serving fried chicken and waffles.

Bars

Live music and great beers make the Rickhouse (6-minute walk) a favorite with local night owls. For a more classic experience, ride the elevator up to the Top of the Mark (7-minute walk) to watch the sunset, dance to swing, and sip a martini.
