Fodor's Expert Review Hotel Frank

386 Geary St., San Francisco, California, 94102, USA

Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.

As if it popped off the pages of Architectural Digest, Hotel Frank's fun and business-friendly design is a nod to iPhone-toting urbanities who seek stylish digs in Union Square. This was the hundred-year-old Maxwell Hotel until designer Thomas Schoos swooped in and turned this old gal into quite the looker. Rooms blend elements of art deco with 60s mod touches and millennial appeal—think dangling bulbous light fixtures, alligator-print seats, houndstooth-patterned carpet, turquoise headboards behind restful beds, and large flat-screen TVs.
